IRIS Project - Identification and Referral to Improve Safety
In 2016 the CCG commissioned us to roll out the IRIS project in Bromley. IRIS is a national programme designed to improve the early recognition of domestic abuse in general practice, and to provide an easy, accessible and safe referral pathway. We challenged with delivering this across Bromley in partnership with the Victim Support charity organisation.
Since the programme began, 27 practices have completed the training programme and have achieved IRIS accreditation. This is a fantastic achievement.
We are now working with the remaining practices in Bromley with the hope that we can deliver domestic abuse training and support to every practice in Bromley.
In the year prior to the programme, Victim Support received one GP referral into their service. The following year, following our intervention, they received over 120 referrals. These ranged from low to high risk cases. Feedback from GPs regarding the quality of the training, and the effectiveness of the referral pathway has been hugely positive. With our highly trained ‘Victim Support Advocates’, they have been able to support victims of domestic abuse; and we are confident that because of this we are improving outcomes for our patients.
